It helps tremendously when manually focusing lenses. But it does make the viewfinder a dimmer with all but the fastest lenses. When on a tripod, by far it is much more precise and accurate to use Live View 5-10X and forget the viewfinder. If you have ever used tilt on a Canon 24 TSE lens, you will know what I mean; the viewfinder is simply too small to accurately check the foreground, background, L-R and readjust tilt while optimizing focus.

Before Live view I simply dialed in the the approximate tilt angle, put the focus near infinity, and shot. This doesn't work very often as you get close to the focal plane. Live view allows a reaonable screen resolution that can can be moved around within the frame: front-back and L-R for fine tuning. 5X is often good enough. Some will say they don't use a tripod and hand held is too jiggly for live view 10X. Then i use focus confirm as all of my MF lenses do talk to the camera. Greek All Seasons 1-4 here.

Hold down the AF button (I use the * button) and turn the focus ring while composing with the viewfinder. When in focus, the assigned focus point will light up and the camera will beep. Focus confirm is adjustable to each lens throught the usual AF micro adjust setting. The amount of lens focus movement required to bring any one point in and out of focus is very much reduced with the EG-S screen compaired to the standard one.
